Indications and Contraindications:

It is used in long wounds where there is minimum wound tension.

Used in securing flaps and skin grafts.

It should not be used in wounds that are at increased risk of wound dehiscence.

Advantages:

There is less scarring as compared to interrupted sutures because of less number of knots.

It is more convenient and much faster to place.

Disadvantages:

If one part of the suture gives way, the integrity across the entire wound may be lost.

It is difficult to make fine adjustments along the contours of an irregular wound.
